Governor Dennis Daugaard  

Daugaard,Dennis-(1).jpgWhen Governor Dennis Daugaard took office in January 2011, he immediately made economic development a top priority and a cornerstone of his administration. His commitment to  in-state businesses, prospective companies, and job growth makes him South Dakota’s No. 1 salesman.

During his first legislative session as Governor, he successfully led the effort to balance the budget without increasing taxes or using state reserve funds.

Prior to becoming governor, Daugaard served as South Dakota’s lieutenant governor from 2002-2010, and as a state legislator from 1996-2001. He has also worked in the financial services, nonprofit and legal sectors.

Commissioner Scott Stern

Commissioner Scott SternScott is a Freeman native and a graduate of the University of South Dakota. For 29 years, he worked with Stern Oil Company of Freeman, including 14 years as vice president and general manager.

For the past four years, Scott has worked a district sales manager for Petro-Canada America, a division of Suncor Energy.

During his years in Freeman, Scott served two stints on the city council and took leadership roles in the Freeman Chamber of Commerce and the Freeman Economic Development Corporation. 

Scott and his wife, Staci, have three grown children.


Deputy Commissioner Aaron Scheibe

A native of Pierre, Aaron joined the Governor’s Office of Economic Development as its deputy commissioner in June of 2014.

Prior to joining the staff at the GOED, Aaron served for 12 years as a diplomat for the U.S. Department of State. 

Aaron holds degrees from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and the George Washington University School of Law in Washington, DC, and is a member of the South Dakota Bar.  

Aaron and his wife, Laura, a Nebraska native, have two young sons.
