Workforce Development Program History

The Workforce Development Program began in 2006 under Gov. Mike Rounds as a cooperative effort between the GOED, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Education. There were no laws passed or executive orders issued to establish the program.

Each agency initially contributed to the program’s funding. Over time, the DOL and DOE redirected their funding, and the program is now entirely funded by the GOED.

The goal of the program is to ensure that companies can provide its employees with the skills needed to be successful, which ultimately, leads to the success of the company.

As of December 31, 2011, the Workforce Development Program has used $1,716,738 to help train 1,340 employees across the state.
