3rd Annual Manufacturing Week a Success
Friday, October 2, 2015
by GOED Commissioner Pat Costello
As the 3rd annual Manufacturing Week comes to an end, I want to extend my thanks to all the communities, companies, schools and other organizations across our state for participating this year. Without your continued support and involvement, Manufacturing Week could not have grown to what it is today. And I am confident that each year it will continue to grow.
The GOED staff jumped into Manufacturing Week with both feet. Collectively, we made more than 25 visits to companies across the state. We visited Larson Manufacturing in Brookings, Toshiba in Mitchell—joining Lt. Gov. Matt Michels on his visit there—RPM in Rapid City, Applied Engineering in Yankton and Hi Roller Conveyors in Sioux Falls, which I had the privilege of touring as well. But that’s just to name a few. Thank you for opening your doors to us and taking time out of your busy day to show us around. Thanks to you manufacturing is alive and thriving in South Dakota!
In addition to sharing local events and news on our social media pages, we sent out several stories featuring companies, professionals and educators in the manufacturing industry. It’s clear to me the future of manufacturing in South Dakota is promising. You can find them at www.sdreadytowork.com
in our Media Center.
The GOED is constantly looking for ways to promote our industries, and one way we go about that is by providing more access and info on our website. Our Manufacturer Database is one of those tools, and it’s my pleasure to announce our new and improved Manufacturer Database, which can be found at www.sdreadytowork.com
. A company may need to find a manufacturer that produces a part or input needed to complete its own product design. Or companies looking to expand or relocate to South Dakota may need assurances that there is a company already here that produces parts and services it needs to operate. With this enhanced database, users have many new search options over the old site, including key word product searches and searches by parent company, contact person, county and export capability.
As a final note, if you haven’t already, take some time to find the manufactures in your community (you can use our new database!) and thank them for what they bring to your local and our state economy. You may be surprised to learn how much of an impact our growing manufacturing sector provides to our economy. And for more information, download the Manufacturing Infographic at sdreadytopartner.com/sdmfgweek.aspx
or find it on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/SDGOED
Until next year, thank you for making South Dakota Manufacturing Week 2015 a success! And don’t forget to mark your calendars for next year’s Manufacturing Week, Oct. 3-7, 2016.
