Preparations are underway at the GOED for the 2013 Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, and communities from across the state are planning to attend as part of the office’s collaborative trade show program.

“This is going to be an exciting show,” said Pat Costello, GOED Commissioner. “When we revised our key industries earlier this year, we expanded from targeting firearms companies to targeting all companies in the shooting, hunting and outdoor sectors.”

“Because of the change in our focus, we can include communities in our trade show efforts that would make a good home for a company in an outdoor industry,” Costello said.

There are currently 11 communities that are attending the show alongside the GOED.

“I’m looking forward to watching South Dakota’s outdoor industries grow,” said Costello. “We know that the firearms industry has been a good fit for the state, and I’m confident that we are a good fit for archery, fishing and other outdoor companies as well.”

The GOED has been attending the SHOT Show since 2001. Professionals from all 50 states and more than 100 countries make up the show’s 60,000 attendees each year.

The Mid-American Economic Development Council (MAEDC) recently recognized the GOED’s 2011 Annual Report with a second-place award at the Mid-America Competitiveness Conference and Site Selector forum in Chicago.

“We are thrilled to receive this sort of recognition,” said GOED Commissioner Pat Costello. “Each year, our marketing, research and creative teams spend several months gathering information, writing articles, and editing content to present this report in a high-quality manner. Having confirmation that our efforts are top-notch and are setting the standard for the rest of the country is quite rewarding.”

The award is based on the following criteria: effectiveness in reaching stated goals; quality of the content; visual impact; design; and uniqueness, innovation and originality.

The 2011 report, which can be viewed here, is the most recent published report. The 2012 edition is expected to be available in February 2013.
