2017 Marketing Campaign: Half Way Through

An Update and Progress Report

With the first half of the year in the rear-view mirror, it is time to take a look at the GOED's 2017 marketing campaign.

"For this campaign, we have really put a concentrated effort on zeroing in on our key industries and refining our business recruitment efforts," said GOED Commissioner Scott Stern.

The campaign consists of a mailing sent to a well-vetted list, follow-up phone calls, and proactive steps in securing meetings with potential companies.

In some cases, industry representatives attend a trade show to further cultivate leads.

In the Bioscience industry, Business Development Representative Kristen Honey completed her trip to the Biotechnology Industry Orgnization's (BIO) annual convention, and visited a number of companies at J-Lab facilities.

Ira Frericks, Business Development Representative in the Financial Services Industry, recently attended the Select USA show in Washington, D.C. GOED represented South Dakota among nearly all 50 states. The show aims to attract foreign investors in to investing in the United States.

"So far, we are pleased with the results of this campaign," Stern said. "We are continually refining our strategy to ensure we are taking the best approach in each industry, and are excited to see this campaign carry on into 2018."

GOED Updates 50-State Comparison Tool

During the past three months, the GOED's research team has been working to update the 50-State Comparison. The interactive tool provides figures for all 50 stats of key metrics that may be used in site selection decisions, including: including taxes, cost of living, education, workforce, utility costs, ect.

"Our team just finished updating the business inventory and personal property tax section," said GOED Commissioner Scott Stern. "Our comparison tool reflects the most-current data available at this time, and we are proud to have this tool available on our website to businesses and our economic development partners."

The research team continually updates data used in the calculator as it is made available throughout the year.
