The GOED's business development reps are pounding Minnesota pavement this month during their Minnesota business blitz May 13-15.

"The goal here is to continue our ongoing conversations with Minnesota companies that may be considering a South Dakota move," said GOED Commissioner Pat Costello. "Additionally, we are working in conjunction with the Department of Labor and Regulation on workforce development efforts."

Combined, the five Business Development Representatives from the GOED plan to meet with representatives from 30 different companies in the two-day span. Governor Daugaard will also be present for a number of the meetings.

"Having the governor's presence at this type of meeting is really an asset," Costello said. "We always say that South Dakota's size is its strength, and the accessibility of our leaders is one of the ways we can prove that."

On the workforce development front, Labor will be promoting the Dakot Roots program at Minnesota's universities and colleges, and the GOED will be taking a quality-of-life approach to workforce development at several of the state's technical schools. For more on this effort, please see the April 2013 eNewsletter.
