PIERRE, S.D. – Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy filed an application today with the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for a 600 megawatt wind energy project in South Dakota as part of a larger 1,500 megawatt project in Sioux Falls. The proposed project would impact residents in Codington, Deuel and Grant counties.
“If there are two things South Dakota is abundant in, it’s wind and opportunity, so a capital investment worth potentially $800 million is exciting” said South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard. “Our premier business climate makes doing business in South Dakota affordable and profitable, and harnessing our natural wind power will provide energy to many of South Dakota’s residents.”
Gov. Daugaard adds that if this project is completed, it will be among the largest wind energy project in state history. For more information about Xcel Energy, please go to www.xcelenergy.com
